Doon Reserve Caravan and Camping Park

Doon Reserve Caravan Park in the Yarra Valley

Set on the banks of the Yarra River, Doon Reserve is the perfect location to camp or caravan whilst exploring the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges.

It is a delightful campground setting with gum trees, the sound of the river, ducks wandering around, and plenty of local things to see and do.

Doon Reserve is the type of caravan park that can easily entice campers to stay put and enjoy the surroundings.

Doon Reserve is one of the closest campgrounds to the Dandenong Ranges, about a 35-minute drive from Olinda.

As we do not have any caravan parks within the Dandenong Ranges National Park, Doon Reserve is an ideal base for camping and exploring the Dandenong Ranges and the Yarra Valley, which offers wineries galore, Healesville Sanctuary, bushwalking tracks, bike trails, and much more.

Doon Reserve Camping and Caravan Park
  • The caravan park has good, clean amenity blocks; campers are never too far away from these necessities.
  • They also provide a basic camp kitchen, outside BBQs with tables, and a handy playground for the kids.

Being on the Yarra River is one of the major attractions. Enjoy the sound of the running water, hang up your car keys to relax, or launch an inflatable and glide down the river with the kids.

There is easy access to the Yarra River; the park is situated on a bend in the river, and campers can launch from one spot, then disembark a few minutes later with a short walk back across to the starting point. Fabulous fun.

Bike Riding or Walking from Doon Reserve

The Warburton Rail Trail is easily accessed from Doon Reserve, so bring the bikes and cruise into Warburton or in the Lilydale direction.

We stayed here recently and rode into nearby Millgrove and around the back streets, exploring the little town and following a path along the river before returning on the Warbie Trail via Yarra Junction with a stop at the local supermarket for supplies.

From Millgrove, ride (or drive) up the rather steep Dee Road to join the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail and enjoy spectacular views and another terrific riding or walking option.

This video shows the ride to Millgrove via Settlement Road. It gets hectic late afternoon, so it’s advisable to ride up Corduroy Rd to join the Warbie Trail, less than 1 km.

The more adventurous amongst us could catch the train to Lilydale with bikes and camping gear and ride to Doon Reserve, or hire a bike in Lilydale from Ride Time Yarra Valley and head off…
