Our World Famous Little Steam Train…
Puffing Billy is a local legend in the Dandenongs and a firm favourite with visitors, young and old and in-between too. Find details of tickets, schedules and special events below.
Puffing Billy Tickets
Find prices and buy tickets online to secure your spot on the Puffing Billy Steam Train. Tickets are available for day excursions and special event trains such as the Luncheon Trains, Day Out With Thomas and ‘Murder on the Puffing Billy Express’! A limited number of tickets may be available to purchase at the station, but it gets very busy so pre-booking is advised.
Self-drive to Belgrave or one of the other stations along the line or come by public transport. A regular train service runs from the city to Belgrave where it is easy to then walk across to the Puffing Billy Station.
Book a tour that includes your transport to Puffing Billy and a trip through the Dandenongs or even to the Yarra Valley or Penguin Parade. Please note that tours generally board at the Belgrave Station and get off at Menzies Creek. It takes in the famous wooden trestle bridge and beautiful forest but is the shortest part of the overall journey.
Special Event Trains
Special event trains run regularly during the year. Dining, Murder Mystery trips, The Great Train Race, Day Out With Thomas, the Commissioners’ Train and more…
We recently joined the Luncheon Tour and then the Commisioners’ Train. Both were fantastic events.
Puffing Billy Timetable
The little steam train runs every day of the year except for Christmas Day. The 900 or so volunteers and dozens of permanent staff need a break too!
The first regular service leaves at 10.30 am. This is the busiest departure each day as a number of tour buses load their passengers on at this time. Winter is a bit quieter of course but always book ahead to be sure of a seat on our ‘Billy’.
